I caught Invader as he climbed out of the river. He didn't bother to dry off as he chased after does.

Sixpack in velvet
Sixpack is one of my favorite bucks. After he was injured last year in a fight we thought he would loose his right eye, but as you can see, its perfect and he's looking good for the upcoming rut.

I ran across this photo of Skar a couple days ago.

Nasty Nuggett
Nuggett trying to get a fawn. He was constantly chasing or attacking the other deer.
2012 Atilla the Hillbilly
Atilla was born in 2008. He was a very chubby fawn and appeared with a small eight point rack as a yearling. This year he appeared just as the rut began. As a three year old, he challenged both Goldie and Nugget for top dog. Needless to say, he did not succeed. If he survives he will be a top contender next year.
Big Head Posing
Big Head was born in 2007. He is a twin to Limpy. Both bucks have had injuries to their back legs. Limpy broke his ankle following a buck fight. Big Head injured his after a swim in freezing water. In 2012 he challenged all comers and was the number 2 buck in this area. When Big came in all the others got out of his way except Goldie.

THE HERD
The weather is starting to show on these guys. They are loosing weight and constantly looking for food. Woodtick is not looking good and Limpy, even though he's thin, has made a remarkable recovery from his bad ankle. We noticed the coyotes have taken at least 3 and two fawns have died. Hopefully the snow will melt soon.

Tiny Ted
Well the bucks are loosing their antlers. This is Tiny Ted sporting one side. He dropped this one week later. There are only 5 bucks with antlers at this time. Goldie(big Eight), Ares (big ten) and three smaller bucks Freddy and Nugget both six's and Fraidycat an eight.

Beggar Doe, Matriach of the family with Skar 2008
Skar was the first buck that we identified and in the early years his constant companion was Too Tall, until 2007 when they went there seperate ways. We did not see Skar in 2009 and we believe that Too Tall died in the fall of 2008.

Unicorn
This is Unicorn. He is one of the dominant bucks. He was constantly chasing does and this picture was taken as he peered over a log at a doe below. Unicorn is very photographic but has quite a temper and I had to be on the watch to make sure he wasn't targeting his aggressiveness towards me. He chased everything out of his courting area and often would leave the doe to confront a buck he felt was too close.

At Sunrise
He just stepped into the light as the sun came up. We watched Unicorn on this crisp morning for about twenty minutes during which he showed quite a temper. He was stomping and snorting around a doe. Every time he blew his neck seemed to get bigger and as he stopped for this shot we noticed a small buck race through the area.

Until we saw this guy the other day we thought he might have been a casualty of last winters cold weather. He is sure looking good today.
