The Bárdarbunga volcano is situated beneath the Vatna glacier. The volcano is in eruption since september 2014. So many lava is coming out what led up to the biggest lava field of the last hundred years. The volcano is with a length of 200 km and width of 25 km the largest volcano of Iceland. On top the ice has a depth of 750 metres. The top of the volcano is 2009 metres above sea level making it the highest volcano of Iceland.
I took these photos on board of a small airplane on september 15. A special experience!
Air pollution caused by the volcanic eruptions are clearly seen in the sky.
