Summer Fun - Colorado Biking

Each trail will reveal a bit of history and nature's awesome views."

The Mt. Falcon trail is an awesome cardio workout. The initial climb is brutal, the downhill is a blast making the climb well worth it. Yeah right!

The story of Mount Falcon is largely the story of John Brisben Walker, who once owned over 4,000 acres of land in this area. During the early 1900's Walker lived in an elaborate stone house on Mount Falcon while planning the construction of a summer home for the Presidents of the United States, which was to have been located on a ridge to the east of his home. Walker's home burned in 1918, and all that remains of this once splendid edifice are the massive stone walls and numerous fireplaces of a unique mountain castle.

Lair 'O the Bear is a beautiful non-technical trail that requires some uphill endurance, it definitely gave our legs a good workout.

Originally known as the Mountain Nook Ranch, early Swedish settlers including "Rutabaga Johnson" delivered fresh produce to the area's summer residents in the early 1900s. Limited grazing replaced farming by the 1930s, which has allowed the disturbed areas to revert to the wild. In the northeast corner of the parking lot, lilac bushes and other domestic plants mark the site of a long gone ranch house. The canyon floor still reveals remnants of the old timber hauling road that became the main route to Evergreen.
