INDIAN PEAKS WILDERNESS
Indian Peaks Wilderness is a spectacular 73,391-acre area with one of Colorado’s highest mountain peaks, remnant glaciers, alpine lakes and streams. Brainard Lake Recreation Area adjoins the rugged Indian Peaks Wilderness Area just 32 miles northwest of Boulder. For decades, the area has ranked as a favorite for hikers from Boulder and the University of Colorado. Several trailhead parking lots offer access points to mountain lakes and the surrounding wilderness, including Lake Isabelle and Isabelle Glacier. Isabelle Glacier sets high against the eastern side of the Continental Divide, and at its base--Lake Isabelle. An easy 2.1 mile hike takes you alongside Long Lake to Lake Isabelle where one can view, or take scenic photographs, of the rugged spires and ridges above Isabelle Glacier. Pawnee Pass Trail (Forest Service Trail 907), starts at the Long Lake Trailhead parking lot west of Brainard Lake. It's only a 0.2 mile walk to the east side of Long Lake, where the lake's outlet enters South Saint Vrain Creek
