Cooperative Cardinal 20080217

Male Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis)

For what I've found to normally be a very skittish species of birds, this was one of very few
cardinals I've ever seen closeup and in the wild that didn't fly off at first sight of a human.

Photographed in the Sonoran Desert west of Tucson, Arizona USA.

Great capture. We have lots of them around our house in Ottawa, but they like to hide deep in the evergreens and are easily scared, so it's hard to get a good shot from close enough.

A very colorful bird. I like it's perch too.
