Sataf - ancient agriculture

Sataf is a hillside in the Judean mountains holding the remains of a 4,000 BCE Chalcolithic village with some of the oldest agricultural terraces in the region. Two springs, Ein Sataf and Ein Bikura, flow into the Sorek riverbed below. Most of the remains are from the Byzantine period as well as from a pre-1948 Arab village.

Sataf provides an excellent example of early intensive agriculture, where a system of collection pools fed by springs, water channels and agricultural terraces can be seen.
