This was erected to remember John Batman who led the expedition on the Enterprise,
entering Port Phillip Heads on 29th May, 1835 and founded the new settlement Melbourne.
This structure is situated in the Victoria Market Car Park
which was formally the Melbourne Cemetary. (Some 10,000 deceased were placed here.
Just 900 (approximately) were relocated to the 'new' Melbourne Cemetary....
so! there are lots of 'unpaid' carpark attendants in this carpark! (approx: 9,100?)
