This is a favourite fishing spot called 'the warmies'
'Warmies' refers to the fact that this was the outlet for water from the old coal fired power station nearby. Fish would be attracted to this area and fishermen and fisherwomen would frequent the area.
My Great Grandparents worked a 'Lighter' (the name given to a barge that carried goods from ships to the docks) in the early days of the development of the Port of Melbourne (approx 1880 to 1900).
The Yarra River entrance (shown in this photo by the red and greed lead lights near the centre) was too shallow for ships which were required to lay at anchor in Hobsons Bay and surrounding waters.
