London Countrysiders March, September 22, 2002

On September 22, I visited London for 36 hours, to make a speech at a pharmaceutical meeting there. On the way in from Heathrow, the taxi driver groused that the city would be a mess that day, due to a scheduled protest march from "the countrysiders" -- farmers and rural dwellers for whom a Parlimentary proposal to ban fox-hunting had proven a lightning-rod issue for a whole host of town-farm differences.

Fortunately, I had recently purchased a traveling office case with room for my largish digital camera as well as my laptop computer and accessories, and I had charged up all my batteries for it just before I left.

I dumped my luggage at my hotel room, and left immediately for Trafalgar Square, through which the march was to flow on its way to Westminster. There, I found the "photo op of a lifetime" -- more than 300,000 faces of typical English of every variety and age.

I hope you enjoy this private gallery of my images.
