Camptown 1949

Easton, PA -- 6th Street

I am indebted to Merle Flitter Grollman for the loan of this photograph, which I believe was made in the summer of 1949 at the "Camptown" day camp of the Easton, PA Jewish Community Center. I am guessing that it was shot by my late uncle, Herb Snyder. The dating results from the presence in the photo of my aunt, Channa Levi, then "Hilda Snyder" (far left, standing) and her then husband-to-be, Avraham Levi, then probably known as "Alfred" (top row, fifth from left). It would be fun to assemble an identification chart of all the people in the photograph. Please send your ID list (left to right, row identified) to melsnyder@earthlink.net. After speaking to my brother Dick, we decided that in row i, Marc Flitter is between Sally and Danny. The row with Jack Sher on the right starts on the left with Joey Grollman, Arnie Hollander, Cyrils Bugen, Herman Yitkin, Marty Phillips, Dick Epstein, Stephen Levine, Saul Zilberfarb and Jack.. It would be great fun for others to add names to this photo...Mel, let's plan a reunion-I don't know where. I live in Holbrook, Long Island,NY. My brother is in Philly. Stew Merkin lives in Miami:his sister Linda is in Boca, but both have kids in the NY area. Communications from old friends are always welcome as those people and memories are priceless. Hi Melly...What a treat to receive this photo of Camptown-My cousin Stew Merkin sent it to me. I am working on my memory to come up with some names. On the 1st row (left to right) are: Linda Feinman, Sally Blackman,?, Danny Cohen, Bobby Socks, Betty Jane Gitkind, ?maybe Richard Masters, ?, Leslie Stone,Judy Frankel,?,?,Leslie Cohen. 2nd row: Stewart Merkin, Jackie Cohen, (you)Melly Snyder,Billy Freeman,?,Larry Gesoff, Jeff Carle,?, Michael Applebaum, (me) Gwen Epstein,?, Louis Gross, Harvey Feinman(I know the side of his head as he sat next to me in 6th grade, Beth Dintenfass. I have to study the rest. I cannot remember what I did yesterday but some of those faces brought my memory to peak performance. I remember Bobby Potter taking these camptown photos, but Uncle Herb may have taken them-his Jack & Jill Studios took everyone elses photos.
