Beechey Island, Nunavut

Photos from an excursion with icebreaker MS Kapitan Khlebnikov in August/September 2008.
This place was Sir John Franklin's first winter camp in 1845/46 during his tragic expedition in search of the Northwest Passage. The expedition failed and all men died during he following years, supposedly not least from lead poisoning due to then new-fashioned tin cans. Three men died in this winter camp already.
