Mani is a small town in state of Yucatan, north of Ticul where the Maya rulers and their descendants were forced to surrender. Montejo the Elder took over and by the mid 1500's erected a huge church/monastery complex in only 7 months. 6000 Maya slaves under the supervision of Fray Juan de Merida struggled to complete the building...

Mani was also the place where Fray Diego of Landa ordered the burning and destruction of many Mayan documents and statues during the Franciscan movement to convert the Indians to Christianity.
