Izamal "The Yellow City" , as seen from the Maya ruins of Kinich Kakmo

Off in the near distance is the Convent of San Antonio de Padua.
Distinguished by its yellow paint and graceful arcade of 75 arches, the convent was built from blocks of an Early Classic Maya ruins;
its demolition ordered by the Spanish Franciscan order in 1533.
Completed in 1561, the convent became the first monastery in the new world.
