El caracol (the snail), as the Spanish named this Puuc-Maya cylindrical tower was later modified with additions of a rectangular platform and steps in the style of another (Toltec) group.

The inside undulating stairway leads to an observation room at the top of the structure.
Only the most adventurous (crazy) travelers (that would be me) try to climb to the top of El Caracol without the original staircase being intact or the aid of a modern day ladder!
