Harbin (Heart of Northeastern China - Russian Trade Hub)
With a 10 million population and Russian-influenced culture and architecture, Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang Province. The province boasts the highest petroleum as well as milk production, the largest deposits of gold and graphite, and 1/3 of China's timber resources. Major imports included mechanical and electrical products, logs, paper pulp, plastic in primary form, and manufactured fertilizers etc. It is now restructuring its six pillar industries; equipment manufacturing, petrochemical, food processing, energy, pharmaceutical, and forest and timber processing. Currently, 25.2% of all industrial enterprises in the province are state-owned. The province aims to introduce a "property right reform" by inviting new strategic partners, selling off assets at deep discounts, going public, bankruptcy and privatization etc. Read more...
