09.05.2006 | Confucius Statue Unveiling And Trade Talk
An 8-ft copper Confucius statue was officially unveiled on Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 when a delegation from the Shandong Province of China, led by their Vice Governor Sun Shoupu, visited Hartford to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Shandong-Connecticut sister-state relationship. As part of a statue exchange program which was designed to kick off a series of China program in Connecticut emcompassing culture, tourism, business and trade, the Confucius statue unveiling in Hartford followed an earlier unveiling ceremony for a Mark Twain bust that Connecticut presented to Shandong in their capital city of Jinan in June of 2006, during a joint MeetChinaBiz/Connecticut World Affairs Council trade mission. Approximately 20 Chinese companies also participated as members of the business delegation. A trade talk was held following the unveiling ceremony and a luncheon.
