The Legend of 'The' Lake

The Moving Story of Three Women (and a college student)- who saved a seven acre lake during the summer drought of 2002. There are no natural lakes in New Jersey, all are man-made created with dams.

Thirty years ago two men (age 50 and 80) set about making repairs to a leaking old dam when they could not find anyone they could hire to do it for them.

Now the remaining man, at 80, watched the lake drain away through rotted leaking boards with no water coming in from the dwindling lakes upstream. He felt powerless and said nothing. When we discovered what was happening options were discussed and a bold plan was formed. Three women set about to do the seemingly impossible. We had formed our own army corp of engineers and these photos document The Legend of The Lake.

We labored over two late afternoons and when we were finished and could see the flow on the other side of the dam was but a trickle we knew together we could probably accomplish anything. So three artists joined their studios and started a business together - Bumbershoot Studios L.L.C. was formed. As a design studio we are developing products primarly based on our photography and we would invite you to check on us occassionally to see whats new under the umbrella.
