Highlights of WINGS tour from San Diego to Vancouver; May 6-10 2014
Here are some images of a great trip where I accompanied Paul Lehman, and a number of other birders, on a WINGS pelagic cruise from San Diego, CA up to Vancouver B.C., with an afternoon stop in Victoria on Vancouver Island.
We were lucky and had good wind for most of the trip, which is a big factor in success with our main targets; Pterodroma petrels. We had excellent numbers of Cook's (300+), good numbers of Murphy's and a few of my main target; Hawaiian. Lots of other cool stuff seen as well such as early (and northerly) Red-billed Tropicbirds, Laysan Albatross, numbers of Sabine's Gulls, etc. Wasn't a really good alcid trip, but a few people did see Parakeet Auklet off of WA as a highlight.
