Spent four days birding the Upper Texas Coast with good friend Harry Forbes, before meeting the rest of my TN contingent for a couple of fast and furious days on the Edwards Plateau.
Harry and I started up near High Island, initially hitting Anahuac and the good shorebird areas nearby, as well as famous High Island itself, with most of a day spent at Smith Oaks. From there we birded our way down the Bolivar Peninsula, taking the ferry over to Galveston and birding some of the great areas there like Lefitte's Cove before eventually making it back to San Antonio about midnight of the fourth night.
My main target was a photo of a King Rail, which we got about 15 minutes into our first stop, and a very unexpected lifer in the way of Black Rail, which we heard calling repeatedly two different times at midday at Anahuac! Luckily got some decent audio of this one.
