  Phainopeplas were more numerous than I expectd, and encountered in a number of locations. I was surprised with a few at 6000 feet or so in the mountains. 
They were literally everywhere at Anza-Borrego though, particuarly on the way into Yaqui Well. We would constantly have a dozen or more birds sitting around, calling back and forth. This male was in this area.
