I had stopped to look at some Avocets and other shorebirds in a barrow pit near Savannnah, when Jeff called to tell me had this Black Skimmer sitting on top of this piling above Pickwick Dam. Needless to say, it didn't take long to get there.
This photo was taken from about 3/4 mile away in terrible light and drizzle. Even so, the Skimmer is visible just to the right of the big structure that resembles a bucket. Behind this bird are some Avocets, and several Laughing Gulls are also in the shot.
This bird left heading south at about 3:00 PM.
