This is one of two Lesser Black-backs on the day. The one that has been frequenting the main gull area on Van Works Rd is darker on the underparts, indeed the darkest I've seen on a 1st-winter Lesser Black-back. This bird was seen late this afternoon in Fulton Co. KY, feeding in a field with Ring-billed Gulls.
Notice the very sleek and attenuated shape, with very long wing projection. The upperparts are darker than Herring, with the tertials wholly dark-centered. The underparts are pale, but streaked, and the bird has the typical eye-mask and slender dark bill of this age Lesser Black-back.
