Ferruginous Hawk

I'm sure much better flight shots of Jeff Wilson's Ferruginous Hawk will be forthcoming, but here are a couple of distant shots, just to show the overall effect of the bird. I didn't get any shots of the upper surface of the bird, which is where it is truly striking, with the gleaming white upper primary patch, and white uppertail coverts and tail base.

In this shot, the very pale look of the bird is evident, as are the long, tapered wings. Though not clear because of the distance and grain, note the contrast between the dark upper head and white throat and body.

While flying, watch for the bird to hover, and for the dihedral it carries while soaring.
