The Black-back is at the right edge of the frame, it and the juvenile Herring Gull had a couple of squabbles over the fish. You get the impression of the lightly-streaked underparts on the Lesser Black-back. The Herring is more uniform, and a more chocolate color. As the winter progresses, the Lesser Black-back will lighten underneath and around the head, but will retain the dark eye patch. Herring Gulls tend to lighten on the head, but stay dark through the breast and belly.
