This gorgeous Yellow Sea endemic, with a world population on the order of 7500, was a regular sight during several days of our trip. This adult was photographed on Yeongjong Island, as it came in right in front of us to the shorebird high-tide roost we were watching. We saw the full gamut of plumages, from worn 1st-winter plumage to very sharp breeding adults like this. The wingtip pattern is very distinct, and in flight the birds really remind you of a Gull-billed Tern, as they search over the tide-line, always flying with the bill down.
