Little Curlew

Korea

One of the highlights for several of our group (everything was a highlight for me), this was the 1st of two Little Curlews we were to see on the tour. This VERY obliging bird was found on Socheong, and is a rare migrant through Korea. The islands are great for rarities, in that the suitable habitat for a particular species is often limited, in essence funneling the birds to a particular spot. This bird remained in the same location for several days, and we later found another bird on Eocheong, which also lingered.

This is obviously the Old World counterpart of our (past tense?) Eskimo Curlew.
