While not as common as Chestnut Munia's (or Mannikin's) these birds were widespread in all but the upper elevations of the island. Both Mannikin's are Asian natives, and are bad pests in agricultural areas. The Nutmeg was given the name previously of Ricebird, as it made quick work of early attempts to raise rice in the islands. Mannikins are tiny little finches, literally dwarfed by House Sparrows and are very flighty, and never seem to stay still for long. The scalloping of the underparts is just visible in the photo.
