Mountain Plover

Granger Lakes area; TX

Another of the highlights of our trip was the flock of 36 Mountain Plovers we found in the Granger Lake area on our 1st day of the trip, during the trip down. We were searching for Longspurs and Plovers in a cold, blowing rain, and finally came across some "moving dirt clods" in one of the fields that they are frequently seen in. We didn't have any luck with either of the target Longspurs, but had a blast enjoying this scarce and struggling species. I wound up getting a lifer on each of the 9 days of our trip, this was the one for the 1st day.
