This highly endangered plant is the crown jewel of the botany community on Mauna Kea. It was on the brink of extinction, due to being favored by the introduced ungulates, but control of them and cultivation/replanting has brought it back and hopefully it can avoid extinction yet. The fencing is to help provide protection.
