There has been mention of this possibly being an escapee from a breeder in nearby Olive Branch Ms. But, Fulvous have been regular the last few years within 100 miles of Memphis in SE Arkansas, and this bird shows none of the features that breeders often do to their birds; both hind toes are clearly present, no bands, and obviously not pinioned. If this was a Gargeney or Baikal Teal that showed up and a nearby breeder had lost one, it would be a much different story in my book. But, a bird not far out of range, showing up at the local Whistling-Duck hotspot seems perfectly reasonable for a wild bird, showing no signs of captive origin.
