Short-billed Dowitchers

Matecumbe Key (Anne's Beach); Monroe Co

Heavily marked griseus in back, and what I would call a hendersoni at right with light spotting below and mostly pale orange underparts. The middle bird is also lightly marked, and to me looks more like a hendersoni that hasn't really "oranged up" all the way. Notice the broad rufous fringes on the upperparts of this bird which help the back to blend in more with the underparts, vs. more extensively dark feathers of griseus behind it. On the griseus, the tail pattern is just visible, with fairly thick black bars, the tail pattern of griseus is more variable than hendersoni, often with heavier black bars.
