The Garner Valley Pinyon Jays were my nemesis from my previous trip. Following Paul Lehman's advice, I got off the main roadway and just drove thru the valley looking and listening. Wind was howling, but after an hour and a half I saw a distant bird drop from a pine to the ground, and I was with Pinyon Jays for about the next hour!
