This little beauty of a bird was discovered by Bill Pulliam, at his mothers house in Hohenwald, Lewis County, TN. Bill 1st saw it on Sunday, 2/18/07, and immediately got word out. Several others saw it on Monday, and Damien Simbeck was there when I got there Tuesday morning. This bird is a real treat this far south, and I would have never believed I would be in short-sleeves while looking at my 1st one in TN!
Thanks again to Bill and his mother, both for getting the word out so fast and being very hospitable to birders visiting.
Redpolls are a bird near and dear to me. I'm sure that far south they are quite a find, in my neck of the woods I once spent over $500 in bird seed one winter feeding one flock of these guys! Great photos, in particular you were able to get a comparison shot of with an American Goldfinch.
