Comet 161P/Hartley-IRAS

The comet was in the constellation Equuleus when imaged. Unfortunately there was temporary light pollution due to the local football club’s floodlights, so the faint comet was not visible to the eye through the ‘scope, only to the camera. Once the lights went out, the comet did became visible in the ‘scope by eye.

31 x 30-sec unguided exposures at ISO 3200; frames stacked on the comet in Deep Sky Stacker software (hence the trailed stars), then processed to reduce noise and increase contrast. full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto
