M87 in Virgo

M87 is a massive elliptical galaxy that is famous for its jet of sub-atomic particles, believed to be caused by a supermassive black hole. This jet is just barely visible in the photo, pointing towards the one-clock position from M87. It is labelled in the inset, reproduced at the scale of the original image. Numerous smaller or more distant galaxies also appear in the main image.
