Iona Abbey

A Christian Monk (St. Columba) and 12 of his followers from Ireland founded a small monastery on the island of Iona in 563 A.D. Up until that time there were only isolated residents on the small island dating back 3000 years.

Iona lies a short distance from the western shore of the Isle of Mull, which is the southernmost of the large islands on the west coast of Scotland.
