The little town of Settignano in the hills north of Firenze is the birthplace of many marble sculptors. It is a quiet place with hilly winding streets, fun to explore on foot. There are villas to admire through the trees and the quarry where Vasari obtained the columns for the Uffizi. In the past victorians including Queen Victoria came here for a cool escape from the Florentine summer heat.

I appreciate your bringing this lovely place to me. It's interesting how you and Robin ended up visiting places I've missed, so if I get back, I can add them to my list.
