Orvieto

Orvieto occupies the site of Volsinii one of the 12 ancient capitals of the Etruscans. Destroyed in 280 B.C. by the Romans, in the Middle ages it became the stronghold of the Guelphs and many popes have sought refuge within its walls over the centuries.

Gorgeous place; nice you're going back there. It looks very medieval, which I love. Would also love to visit Etruscan tombs there.

Beautiful scenes. We drove right under Orvieto and wondered what it was, and Lonely Planet
explained. ALMOST stopped but we needed to arrive somewhere else to claim a room or two.
I think we were on our way to Pitigliano.
