Badia Fiesolana
5991

San Domenico

A short walk from tiny San Domenico is the Badia Fiesolana,

built by the monks of the order of San Romolo in the 11th century.

In the 15th Century Cosimo Medici the Elder financed its rebuilding.

The romanesque marble of its earlier facade is still visible framed

by unfinished stone.

It's interesting how the marble is almost exactly like San Miniato--did you guys get up there? (I have a few shots of it in my 3rd Florence gallery). If I were as good an information-history collector and provider as you and Andrys, I would know if it was built at the same time :-(

Very unusual and appreciate that the original facade is beautifully framed.
Someone got a little hungry, on the right, when it was finally completed.
