The historic ferry Kalakala

The Kalakala was one of the predecessors to the present day Washington State ferry fleet, from 1935 until she was retired in 1967. The vessel was towed to Alaska in 1968 and used as a floating fish processing factory until being brought back to Seattle in 1998 with plans to restore the Kalakala to her former glory. She is now residing on an industrial waterway just north of Tacoma. May, 2005

The vessel has a very interesting history, and there is a website located at: http://www.kalakala.org - Great reading if you are interested.
