Weekend roadtrip to Dwesa-Cwebe national park, east of where we work. 2008-2010 I did a number of trips like this on my loud knobby-tired KLR650 wearing all the uncomfortable riding gear money could buy. Kinda fun to do it in the rental Nissan, which I couldn't help but anthropomorphize a bit and imagine felt similar astonishment at each new puddled expanse of road. Had to take my time and pick my lines more carefully but the whispering motor and Xhosa radio stations (at volume, better than the horn for getting bulls off the road) made up somewhat for the absence of the physical joy of the motorbike's torque and suspension, the greater chance of being stuck or stranded (in what was by all local accounts a friendly place where I might be robbed but not harmed) all in all preferable to the constant proximity of a compound fracture.
