Last week's inspections of the nesting site revealed the two nests looking quite shabby and forelorn and no signs of refurbishment for a new nesting season. Today the male was there--looking for twigs!! Nesting season seems to be getting off to a late start compared to last year. Speculation by some of the naturalists who monitor the South Bay herons is that the very cold weather last month was the cause of the delay.
