I passed Tintern Abbey on my way to Monmouth and saw it in spectacular light, glowing bright against dark rain clouds. I should have photographed it then. This day was dark and rainy.
Tintern Abbey was a Cistercian abbey on the River Wye founded in 1131, but most of the existing sections are 13-14th century. King Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries started its decay, the roof removed for its lead.
