I took too many of these. In addition to their appealing forms, I love the candy colors they are painted; you never see those colors here. Many are used as taxis and kept in good condition. These old cars may disappear soon, as a year ago Raul Castro gave Cubans the right to buy and sell cars, so they will no longer have to maintain the old ones. There are very few bicycles in Havana, as they are a sore reminder to people of the Special Period in the early 90's, when people couldn't afford gas or food, and got about on bicycles. We saw bicycles outside Havana, where people could grow their own food during that time. |
