In Cairo we got up in the middle of the night and flew south to Abu Simbel. The temples of Abu Simbel were originally built in 1300 BC near the Nile. In the 60's they had to be relocated to the current location on the edge of Lake Nasser to keep them from being submerged in the lake by the High Dam at Aswan. The move was completed and the site was reopened in 1968. It looks like it has been there for centuries.
