During strong wind gusts this adult Red-shouldered Hawk flew into the yard and landed on a bluebird nest box. Birds scattered from the nearby feeders, but the hawk was more interested in the chipmunk that lived in a hole in the ground. It watched for a few minutes, then flew down to the ground and peered down into the chipmunk hole. It then put its foot into the hole in an attempt to reach the chipmunk. It was unsuccessful.
