On this trip we encountered half dozen well defined water spout/twisters. This particular one we heard over land before we saw it. It wasn't more than a mile away, had been walking directly towards it.

Hundred yard sprint in under 9 seconds. The problem is there really is no place to escape had it's trajectory shifted. These things throw any debris in it's path, and thats what makes them dangerous.
