Who knew I'd be doing this again over this camera?

Today my only digital camera broke a Canon S3 Is and so I am in a dilemma whether to fix it or get another. The lens was jerky when extending when I turn it on and now it won't fully extend. Much thinking to do here. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
I love the idea of the Canon G10 with the auto focus tracking of moving objects. That seemed to be one thing that I was missing in my camera. Too many blurry shots unless I was well prepared in advance before taking the picture.
I absolutely love the 12 times zoom. Even more would be better.
The swivel monitor seemed to be the best thing for me since sliced bread. Bad knees. ;-) I could access shots I would normally not try for.
I am not stuck on a Canon. My first digital was a Nikon Cool Pix 950
I also think Sony may be a good make but from I'm not sure where to go.
I see my camera was only 2 years and two months old.
Many thanks for any help.

Graeme I got a couple of private comments but basically it is not an issue right now as I am having the S3 repaired. It will be ready early in February.
I do have my eye on the Panasonic Lumix G1. Perhaps when it is time to buy another camera there will be more choices for me. The G1 has no video and that might be an issue for me but I love the monitor. It is similar to the Canon's.
Thank you my dear friend for your interest in me and my camera.
