Village of Milton Abbas

Dorset, England

The relocated village of Milton Abbas.
The original village was a bit too close to Lord Milton's house so he had it demolished
and had the villagers moved to the new village
he had built in 1870 by Capability Brown, a famous garden designer.
Milton Abbas thus became the first planned village in England.

Thanks for the comment on Milton Abbas. There are about 50 entries under Milton in my Road Atlas. So I guess it is relatively popular.

What a beautiful composition! Is Milton a popular English name for a town? I have friends who live in Milton Keynes...

The contrast between the quaint homes and the modern cars is striking. Great shot.

Wouldn't that be nice if there are no cars...

Oh, this is nice! I like the post processing too. I remember going to a village fete at Milton Abbas as a child at least 25 years ago - this main street was closed to traffic for the day and we had get a lift on bales of hay on the back of a tractor trailer from the car park. Thanks for bringing back some happy memories.
