Schemitzun is a gathering of Native Americans to celebrate the Feast of Green Corn and Dance.
This has become an annual celebration held Since 1992,and hosted by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation,in North Stonington, CT. The gathering is patterned after centuries old harvest celebrations linked to the cultivation of corn. The contemporary festival and celebration features Native American dancers and singers from more than 500 Native nations.
I was very sad when I had learned that the Celebration of the Green Corn and the 500 Nations at the Mohegan Sun was canceled. Every year that I went I always learned so much. It is my hope that the event at the Foxwoods will be as wonderful as the Mohegan event was. I am looking forward to it during the week-end of Aug 26th.
